2008-9 NEWS

  • The youth team finished the season with a strong performance. Momentum started in favour of Rothwell and gradually shifted to Town as it looked likely that Akin Iluyemi's solitary 58th minute goal would win the tie. However Rothwell were dangerous on the counter attack and had already had two goals ruled out for offences. With a minute to play in regulation time the Robins succumbed. Corinthian hearts were lifted and they took advantage of the loss of Amoroso and Brent who had bossed the midfield and took two decisive goals. NTI, Stimpson and Ilutemi all came close but a coup de gras with minutes to go sealed the win for Rothwell. Youth Coach Phil Simons praised his team's effort as the best home performance of the season. Rothwell Corinthians now face Western Division rivals Sileby Rangers on Monday 19th May in the Final.Town finish the season with a fine display of fast moving flowing football and 2-1 win over Burton Park Wanderers. The win left Town in 9th, in the middle of a packed bunch. Sobering to think if just one or two more results had been wins we could have been 4th!
  • The reserves started the afternoon's double fixture with Burton with a comfortable 4 - 0 win. A considerably mixed season but finished well off the bottom of the table in 13th.
  • 2/5 - First team win 2-1 (Garcia, Bellhouse ) and Reserves win 4-0 over Burton Park Wanderers in a double header at Ford Meadow. First team finish the season in mid-table. Reserves three off the bottom but with a reasonable if mixed record this season.
  • 30/4 - First - Charity Cup Semi Final Vs Leighton Town FC - The Robins confirmed their credentials as a footballing club with a challenging contest at Leighton Town forcing extra time over two legs before being beaten by single goal. 1-1 (Taylor) in the first leg and 3-2 (Beefy and Garcia) in the second AET allowed Leighton Town to progress 4-3 on aggregate.
  • Mon 27th Apr AWAY @ Cranfield United
    NSYFL West - 2-2 Draw Risby (2)
  • 23/4 - Youth 4-3 Win over Bedford in the League Cup - details to follow.
  • 20/4 - Robin Taylor awarded "Groundsman of the Year" from Berks and Bucks FA. - I am sure you would all like to join the players and management in congratulating Robin on a superb effort and well deserved award. Robin would be the first to say it is a team effort so well done to Rocky, Eddie and colleagues too. JW
  • 18/4 - First - Buckingham town first XI got back to winning ways away (1-2) at Burton Park Wanderers. Skipper Danny Hart and manager Tony Joyce returned to the team which added much needed experience. Burton took a 10 min lead through an in direct free kick which was somehow was awarded through a 30 yard tackle/back pass. Buckingham started to play some neat football and took control of the game with some very good possessional play, however trailed 1-0 at the break. In the second half town continued to press and Gary Flynn came up with his first goal of the season.Buckingham Town continued to dominate and with 7 mins to go Ben Hill hit a wonder strike which found the top corner of the net. It was a deserved 3 points and the team showed character to bounce back after last weekends disappointment
  • 15/4 - Youth - 3-5 Loss against Brackley.
  • 31/3 - Youth - Secured a great point at Sileby with goals from Bishop and Brent.
  • 31/3 - First - Home loss to promotion chasers Dav Utd.report
  • 25/3 - Reserves make it a hat-trick of mid week wins and set up a possible grand slam against Kempston this weekend if the first team can turn over the Bedfordshire side.
  • 24/3 - First and Youth back to winning ways with a league win over Kempston for the youth and a charity cup win (albeit on pens) for the first team against Stony Stratford report.
  • 18/3 - First - 3-0 Loss at Daventry Utd. Town were without defnders Clinch, Lagioia and Toms. The reshuffled squad started brightly and the contest was played at a frantic pace. Dav Utd took the lead on 20 mins and added another 8 mins before the half. Kyle McNulty made his debut and joined Joyce and Bellhouse and Town looked likely to get back into the game. On 80 mins United sealed the game with a 3rd goal.
  • 17/3 - Youth - 1-1 (1-0) Vs Bugbrook - A great first half followed by a frustrating second half resulted in a 1-1 draw rather than a clear win!
  • 14/3 - First - Robins take a point from in form Eynesbury in 1-1 draw. Jon Mills with the crucial goal.
  • 12/3 - Youth - Game at cranfield called off at Cranfield's request.
  • 10/3 - Reserve game cancelled due to weather.
  • 7/3 - First - 0-1 win away at Sileby. Good team performance as the Robins continue an increasingly convincing push for promotion and are now 2 points off the crucial 2nd place. Mark Redsull's penalty secured the forth consecutive win but discipline at the back and teamwork are paying dividends.
  • 7/3 - Reserves - 3-2 Win over Rushden and Higham. A deserved win saw Geoff Baffo gett he opener a minute before the halftime whistle. Baffo secured the second but Rushden & higham got back into the game with a pen and a second goal. Stimpson steamed through to secure the winner with 5 minutes to go.
  • 5/3 - Youth - 2-2 Draw at Kempston. A good commanding first 15 minutes for Town was followed by a mixed performance. Mitchell Brent recovered the initial goal deficit in the first half and took the lead in the second, only for Kemston to drive straght through the defence to draw level a minute later. A fair result.

  • 24/2 Reserves AWAY @ Wootton Blue X
UCL RD2 - 1-3 Win (Holloway, McCormick 2) report in fanzone.
  • 24/2 - Youth - 1-5 loss to Sileby (1-4) With 8 injuries a still competent squad faced an impressive Sileby side who took 4 excellent goals in the first half. All were amazed Sileby did not lose a player when he handled on the line resulting in the penalty confidently converted by James Bishop. Controversy at the start of the second half as a generous award of a penalty to Sileby gave them the 5 - 1 cushion and it was all Buckingham for the second half.
  • 21/2 First - vs Bugbrooke St Michael
    UCL Div 1 - 6 - 5 Win goals from : McCormick 2, Redsull 2, Mills, Taylor.
    Report

  • 7/2 - First and reserve games cancelled today due to the weather as was every game involving a UCL team!
  • 1/2 - All - Updates to the fixture list now available. Click on Fixtures in the left hand menu!
  • 31/1 – Reserves Away Vs Long Buckby 7-2: This was a game of four quarters. In the first 25 minutes Town defended well and Chris Robson broke the deadlock (25 mins) with a fine strike set up by Clarkson. Despite a few more chances in the rest of the half Long Buckby established themselves in the game and went to the changing room 2-1 up (38 & 40 Mins). At the restart Long Buckby imposed themselves on Town who were on the ropes for four devastating blows (48,50,60 & 65 mins) putting them 6-1 behind. In the final quarter Town regained some composure and Catlow consolation on 70 mins was countered siz mins later with Buckby’s final goal.
  • 31/1 - First - Superb and overwhelming performance by the Robins. All were pleased Tyrone Taylor eventually knocked in twice, the first half goal a stumbling affair, his second just after the restart, an aerialmasterpeice as he rose and headed in from 6 yards. Dave Holloway paced down the left wing and drove in powerful strikes to get a creditable brace. Joel McCormick denied by keeper and post secured a cracking goal to take Town to 5. Town missed out on shutting up shop at the back as a chance goal and a well taken free kick were rare chances that Olney created and converted.
  • 27/1 Youth - Town were not able to perform at their best tonight but came away with a creditable point. Both sides had chances in front of goal, Cranfield with a handful on target from five or six strikes. Town's similar number but most on target and stopped by an in form Luke Purnell in goal for Cranfield. Kyle Stimpson scored 5 mins into the first half, heading in Mich Brent's corner at the near post. Stimmo secured the point coming back from 2-1 down at 68 mins with a strong run into the box a a deft touch past the advancing keeper.
  • 27/1 First - charity Cup game postponed.
  • 17/1 First - Despite dominating for most of the game, and forcing some fine saves from Rushden's in form keeper a late goal for R&H gave them the lead briefly before it was cancelled out by Redsulls penatly. A free kick conceded to R&H just after the restart was almost the last kick of the game but resulted in goal mouth melee and all 3 points going up to Northants.
  • 15/1 Youth vs Bedford FC - close game with chances for both teams. 0-0.
  • 10/1 - Like most of the UCL, all games were off today.
  • 6/1 - Youth game vs Bugbrooke cancelled due to frozen pitch.
  • 3/1 - First - Cancelled due to frozen pitch.
  • 3/1 - Reserve - Loss away at Deeping. 7-1
  • 27/12 - First - 2-2 draw at Bugbrooke. Town were unlucky to have Redsull's goal ruled out for offside. Hill converted a free kick and Max Grant secured the second to edge closer to Daventry Utd in the table.
  • 20/12 - First - 3-0 League win over Irchester Utd. A WIN and 3 points is what was asked for and we got it, however it could have been made an easier afternoon if we had converted more of our chances into goals.
In the 1st minute of the game Ben Hill hit the post with a drive from outside of the box and four minutes later Ben Clarke (back on loan from Wealdstone) rounded the keeper and should of done better than hitting the post when the goal looked empty. 17 mins in and good midfield play, created a chance and Ben Hill finished off the move to make it 1-0.As expected Irchester got men behind the ball and it wasnt untill the 7 mins into the 2nd half when Marc Redsull scored the second of the afternoon taking his personal tally to three goals in three games. Tactically we reverted back to 4-4-2 system bringing Mas Lagioa and Beefy williams on as full backs and this on the day helped Tyrone Taylor and Ben Clarke get more off the ball and we created more chances when williams crossed and max Grant blazed over the bar from close range. In the 71st minute Hill superbly scored from a freekick to seal victory. In the closing minutes we had the chance to make it four, but Hill couldnt complete his hatrick and put his penalty shoot over the bar. Final score BTFC 3-0 irchester. From my point of veiw as manager im happy with the 3 points, and the win moves us up to 6th in the table. I would be dissapointed if we were not creating in games the problem is against th better teams in the league we must kill teams off to really push for promotion so in the january sales dont be suprised to see one or two players join the squad .
HAVE A GREAT CHRISTMAS AND NEW YEAR. Tony Joyce
  • 20/12 - Reserves - 5-1 BB Junior Cup Win. Town settled and played neat passing football and following an Abraham shot which was parried Hill followed up 0 - 1 (4), Town continued to press and play good football with Stimpson, Holloway, Hill, Clarkson all coming close to adding the second. Stimpson finished a fine move that ended with Abraham crossing, Hill knocking on and Stimpson slotting home (32) 0 - 2. Hill then slotted ball between defenders for Holloway to fire home from edge of the box (38) 0 - 3. After the break Castlethorpe started to pressure and finally got a goal on (50) 1 - 3 this then made us start playing again and Iluyemi with his first and second touches following up his own shot scored our forth (60) 1 - 4. Game over. On (80) Danson played Holloway through to chip the keeper 1 - 5.
  • 17/12 - Youth - 3-0 Win over Cognehoe. A strong all round performance in the first half resulted in several great saves from Jack Bridges and three excellent goals from Bishop (2) and Simons. The second half was a defensive stand of some note by Cogenhoe with impressive play from Town without production. Bishop came close to a hat-trick, Max Risby, Kyle Stimpson created great opportunities. Good win before the Xmas break.
  • 13/12 - Day of postponed games across the country. Daventry Utd game off but will be scheduled later in the season. Reserves Junir Cup will be scheduled for next Saturday 1330 KO.
  • 6/12 - First - FA Carlsburg Vase - Witney Utd 2 Buckingham Town 1 - Mark Redsull scored and the usually reliable Keith Williams failed to convert from the spot otherwise a 2-2 draw was on the cards, if not more. Manager Tony Joyce praised his team's effort and thanked the travelling fans for their support.
  • 6/12 - Reserves - 6-4 at Peterboro NS - Town travelled to top of the table and undefeated Peterboro NS and almost pulled off a result. Town pressured Star and took an early lead when Twiggy, rounded the keeper& finished from a very acute angle (4m) followed by Stimpson tapping home from a Clarkson cross (11m) and 0 -2 Town went to sleep with Star grabbing 3 goals in 5 minutes (15, 18 and 20m) the second clearly punched in - not seen by the referee!!!! Town then started to play football again and came close two or three times until Soetan went on a run and beat three players cut into the box and scored top right corner (43m) 3 -3 at half time. The first half performance all but 5 minutes was the best yet of the season. The Second half was more of the same and we started in the same vein not letting Star play and moving the ball quickly, Clarkson crossed for Stimpson to head home his second and a 3 - 4 lead (49m). 2 minutes later the referee awarded a penalty to Star (51m) 4 - 4. This time we did not drop our heads and continued to pressure Star and play our football with much of our good work coming from Abrahams and McNulty in midfield breaking up Stars play and starting our own. Coming close a couple of more times. Unfortunately we were undone by the long ball over the top (75m) and a good headed goal in the (78m).
  • 4/12 - First - Tony Joyce reports a full squad, including Joel McCormick will be returning to the Polythene Stadium to "bag" a win over FA cup nemesis team Witney Utd. Town will start as underdogs in the FA Carlsberg Vase game but has growing confidence and experience compared to the previous meeting.
  • 4/12 - First - Young striker Drew Mitten has decided to move on. Tony Joyce and the team wish him well in his future football career.
  • 2/12 - Youth - Progress to next round of the Northants Youth League Cup with 5-0 win over Bugbrooke St Michael. Amoroso, Simmonds, Bishop 3.
